Graduation Requirements for CIC Ontario Secondary School
At CIC Ontario Secondary School, students must meet specific requirements to earn the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). These requirements ensure a well-rounded education that prepares students for future academic and career success.
For Students Starting Grade 9 in 2023 or Earlier
Compulsory Credits:

4 credits in English (1 credit per grade)

3 credits in mathematics (including at least 1 credit in Grade 11 or 12)

3 credits from Group 1, 2, and 3 (1 credit from each group)

2 credits in science

1 credit in Canadian history (Grade 10)

1 credit in Canadian geography (Grade 9)

1 credit in the arts

1 credit in health and physical education

1 credit in French as a second language

0.5 credit in career studies

Additional Information:

Group 1: English, French as a second language, Native languages, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit studies, classical studies and international languages, social sciences and humanities, Canadian and world studies, guidance and career education, cooperative education, American Sign Language, Langue des signes québécoise.

Financial Literacy Requirement
Starting in 2025, as part of the compulsory Grade 10 mathematics course, students must achieve a mark of 70% or higher to pass this requirement.
Literacy Requirement
To graduate, students must meet the provincial literacy standard by either passing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test or completing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OLC4O). At CIC, we offer the OLC4O course.

OLC4O Course: Enroll in the OLC4O course if you need to fulfill the literacy requirement. If you've already passed the literacy test at another school, this requirement is satisfied.
Community Involvement Hours

Complete a minimum of 40 hours of unpaid community service. This requirement helps students gain civic awareness, impact their communities, and explore career options.
